Move over Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber…you think these stars have crowd control issues?
Look at Jesus. He created a stir wherever he went. “Because of the crowd he told his disciples to have a small boat ready for him, to keep the people from crowding him.” Mk. 3:9
Stirred–“For he had healed many, so that those with diseases were pushing forward to touch him” Mk. 3:10
Stirred–“Whenever the evil spirits saw him they fell down before him and cried out ‘You are the Son of God!'” Mk. 3:11
Stirred–“Then Jesus went home and the crowd gathered again , so that they could not even eat.” Mk. 3:20
Stirred–“And when his family heard it, they went out to seize him, for they were saying, ‘He is out of his mind.'” Mk. 3: 21
Yes, Jesus certainly stirred things up. Life was not dull with Jesus.
Touching him, being near him meant healing and freedom for many.
But knowing Jesus also stirred doubts and controversy among the religious establishment and even his own family.
Jesus still stirs today. Just speaking His name in public (and not as a curse word) stirs ire. Testifying that Jesus is “the way, the truth, and the life” and “that no one comes to the Father but through Him” raises the hackles of those adhering to the ‘all roads lead to Heaven’ view.
Yes, Jesus stirs. Most importantly Jesus stirs hearts who feel the weight of emptiness and guilt. Stirring such as this opens hearts and minds to the Good News–that Jesus offers forgiveness of sins and peace through faith in Him.
It sounds crazy, but it’s true!
Lord God, thank you for sending Jesus to stir our hearts and minds and to provide the way to you. When the world around us thinks us “crazy” for believing in you may we remember your Son’s steadfast mission to proclaim the Truth and to bring healing and restoration to broken people.
By your Spirit’s power enable us to stir others by our words and actions to point the way to You. For Jesus’ sake, Amen.
“Commit your way to the Lord; trust in Him and He will do this:
“He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.” Psalm 37:5-6
