Numbers 8:1-9:23; Mark 13:14-32; Psalm 50:1-23; Proverbs 10:29-30
Long before maps and GPS there was–the Cloud.
Ever wonder how the Children of Israel got from point A–Egypt to point B–the Promised Land?
They looked to the Cloud.
“On the day the tabernacle, the Tent of the Testimony, was set up, the cloud covered it…whenever the cloud lifted from above the Tent, the Israelites set out; wherever the cloud settled, the Israelites encamped.” Numbers 9: 15, 17
God Himself would show them the way–in the cloud.“At the Lord’s command the Israelites set out, and at his command they encamped.” v.18
For forty years the Israelites followed the cloud: “At the Lord’s command the they encamped, and at the Lord’s command they set out. They obeyed the Lord’s order, in accordance with his command through Moses.” vs. 23
Ever wonder how we get from point A–Earth to point B–Heaven?
Look to the cloud. Look to Jesus.
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2
In that cloud of witnesses are Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, David, Samson, grandparents, aunts, sisters, brothers, teachers, spouses–all who kept their eyes on the cloud–on the One who leads us from death to life.
“At that time men will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. And he will send his angels, and gather his elect from the four winds of the earth to the ends of the heavens.” Mark 13:26-27
Watch and wait for the Cloud!
Lord God, We thank and praise you for the great cloud of witnesses who lead us to You. Thank you for not leaving us to wander alone in a desert of sin and fear and guilt–that you led us to Jesus. Give us the endurance to continue to follow You until that time when You will come again–to take us to our eternal home–Heaven–our Promised Land. In Jesus’ Name we pray. Amen.
“The Mighty One, God, the Lord, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to the place where it sets.
From Zion, perfect in beauty God shines forth.” Psalm 50:1-2
