Numbers 15:17-16:40; Mark 15:1-47; Psalm 54:1-7; Proverbs 11:5-6
What normal, innocent human being would remain silent when accused falsely of a crime punishable by death? “But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate was amazed.” Mark 15:5
What normal, innocent human being would willingly submit to torture totally unwarranted and so horrendous that disability would follow them for life? “Pilate wishing to satisfy the crowd, released for them Barabbas, and having scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.” Mark 15:15
What normal human being could stay on his feet after prolonged sleep deprivation, severe body blows, wracked nerves, dehydration and constant verbal assault to carry a heavy wooden beam up a hill where death awaited? “And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns they put it on him. And they began to salute him ‘Hail, King of the Jews!” And they were striking his head with a reed and spitting on him and kneeling down in homage to him. And when they had mocked him, they stripped him of the purple cloak, put his own clothes on him. And they led him out to crucify him.” Mark 15:16-20
What normal human being could bear the weight of all mankind’s guilt before a Righteous God and be willing to pay the price? “And at the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, ‘Eloi, Eloi, lama sabacthani?’ which means my God, my God why have you forsaken me?” Mark 15:34
Jesus. True man, yet true God. Jesus had staying power.
He alone had the ability to last; to endure to the very end.
He alone got the job done.
“But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God…for by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” Hebrews 10:12-14
Lord God, Your son’s staying power affected all mankind for all time. His staying power meant that his one time sacrifice on the cross fulfilled your requirement for the shedding of blood for sins. His staying power opened the way to You for all who believe. Jesus’ staying power enable us to have the same staying power as we await his triumphant return.
Thank you for the staying power to stay close to You. We give you thanks and praise. In Jesus’ Name we pray–Amen!
“Surely God is my help; the Lord is the one who
I will sacrifice a freewill offering to you O Lord for it is good.
For he has delivered me from all my troubles and
my eyes have looked in triumph on my foes.”
