April 15 Good Question

Joshua 11:1-12:24;  Luke 17:11-37;  Psalm 84:1-12;  Proverbs 13:5-6

10 healed lepers – 1 thankful leper = 9 ungrateful men who had received new leases on life.

10 healed lepers – 9 heading to see the priests = 1 returning leper who fell at Jesus’ feet who heard the good news, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”  Luke 17:19

“Where are the other nine?”,  Jesus asked those around him.

I think of all the requests for healing that soar to the throne of God every second of the day and night.

God hears and answers them all.

I wonder how many prayers of thanksgiving and praise ascend to that same throne–probably not as many.

Human nature quickly forgets the crisis and moves on to the next business of life.  We fall in line with the nine and head to our next destination, our next appointment on our to-do list.

Taking time each day to fall at the feet of Jesus–to thank and praise Him for healing our sin-broken hearts–to meditate on His Word and on His goodness and mercy–to hear Him say “Rise and go, your faith has made you well”–we join the ranks of the leper who returned.

Lord God, you are so gracious–you hear and answer prayers even though you receive little thanks.  You long to provide healing for sin-sick souls.  May we use opportunities that you give us to share the Good News–to tell how you saved us from the terminal illness of sin through your son, Jesus Christ.  May we give you all thanks and praise each day.  For Jesus’ sake we pray, Amen

“Blessed are those whose strength is in you,

who have set their hearts on pilgrimage.”   Psalm 84:5
