April 16 Prayer Points

Joshua 13:1-14:15;  Luke 18: 1-17;  Psalm 85:1-13;  Proverbs 13:7-8

Jesus told stories to teach his disciples–and us– special truths.  Here’s some how-tos from the Master:

Please pray and pray and pray and pray…..

The story of the persistent widow encourages me to NOT give up praying about a particular concern.  Our Father in Heaven hears and WILL answer in His time and His way.  Don’t give up praying even if it seems like he’s not listening.

“And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.”  Luke 18:1

Pray on bended knees. Jesus’ story about the prayers of the Pharisee and the tax collector reminds me that God bends His ear to hear the prayer of one who pours out his heart from a state of emptiness; from one who brings nothing to God but his admission of guilt; a recognition of the almightiness of God and the lowliness of self.  Humbling myself before the Lord keeps me in a posture of prayer.

“For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but the one who humbles himself will be exalted.”  Luke 18:14

Pray like a baby.  Babies cry–a lot.  It’s their way of saying “I’m hungry, thirsty, wet, cold, hot, uncomfortable, lonely, bored, tired, overstimulated…”  Once words are learned children ask–a lot.  Can I have a drink?  that book?  go outside? go with you? what’s that? why? how? when?

Children and babies depend totally on their caregivers and that’s how Jesus wants me to be with Him.  He wants me to come to Him and trust Him to provide me with all that I need.  No complicated formula for getting His attention–simply come as a child, come pray and know how much He loves His children.

“Let the children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God.”  Luke 18:16

Lord God, thank you for encouraging us in your Word to come to you in prayer–to not give up–to trust that you hear and answer our prayers in your time and in your wisdom.  Lord hear my prayers and petitions today for Jesus’ sake, Amen.

“Show us your unfailing love, O Lord,

 and grant us your salvation…

The Lord will indeed give what is good.”  Psalm 85: 7,12
