Joshua 22:21-23:16; Luke 20:27-47; Psalm 89:14-37; Proverbs 13:17-19
There are signs of spring around but it sure doesn’t feel like a St. Louis spring. There are blooming daffodils and tulips, robins pulling up worms, but it just doesn’t feel like spring underneath the sweatshirts and coats from the closets.
I’m a bit grumpy because I expect the promise to be completely fulfilled–flowers, birds, AND warmer weather with no more heavy sweaters, scarves, and frosty breath in the mornings.
Joshua reminded the Israelites in today’s reading about God’s promises–“You know in your hearts and souls, all of you, that not one word has failed of all the good things that the lord your God promised concerning you. All have come to pass for you; not one of them has failed.” Joshua 23:14
I’m impressed! Not one of God’s promises had failed–He kept each and every one of them.
Now…..did the Israelites keep their promises to obey the Lord their God with all their heart, all their soul, all their strength and all their mind and to love their neighbors as themselves? Did they do all that the Lord had instructed them to do?
There is only One who is the perfect promise keeper and that is the Lord, the God of Heaven and Earth.
I love what St. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 1:20 about promises, “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
Yes! Jesus kept the Law perfectly. Yes! Jesus was the sacrificial lamb slain for us. Yes! Jesus rose from the dead. Yes! He lives and will come again to take us to be with Him in Heaven. Yes!!!
God will never disappoint us, because He always keeps His promises!
“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:22-23
Lord God Heavenly Father, we thank and praise you for keeping all of your promises to us. We especially thank you for your son, Jesus, in whom is the fulfillment of all that you have promised to us–eternal life. Through him we have the forgiveness of sins, the redemption of our souls from hell. This spring when we see all of the signs of new life around us, may we be reminded of your YES-in Jesus. In His Name we pray, Amen
