“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually.” Psalm 105:4
I remember seeing the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer when I flew over Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is an imposing figure settled high on a hilltop overlooking the city. With arms outstretched this Christ is a welcoming, visible reminder of the true Redeemer who sought us and bought us with his own blood.
He wants us to come to him, to be in his presence always. When we sin he turns his head away because holiness cannot look upon the profane. But when we confess our sins, his forgiveness covers our sins and his face once again turns to us in blessing.
Remember his outstretched arms this week. Seek him with all your heart.
Lord God, thank you for stretching out your arms on the cross to embrace our sins and take them to the grave. Forgive us our sins, for Jesus’ sake. Thank you for embracing us as your children and for the strength that you give us to live for you. May we look to you daily for all that we need. Thank and praise your Holy name. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.
