2 Samuel 7:1-8:18; John 14:15-31; Psalm 119:33-48; Proverbs 15:38
Jesus fast forwards.
“I tell you the truth, before the rooster crows, you (Peter) will disown me three times.” John 13:38
There’s lots of talk about going away. Jesus comforts.
“I will not leave you as orphans. I will come to you.” John 14:10
“Because I live, you also will live.” John 14:19
He looks to the future.
“All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I said to you.” John 14:26
Jesus calms frayed nerves.
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid.” John 14:27
Fast forward your life–
to the birth of a child
to the accident or illness
to the death of a loved one
Jesus meets you with assurance of His Presence, His Life, His Spirit of Truth, His Peace.
Lord God Heavenly Father, thank you for meeting us where we are with your promise of peace–that you will not abandon us–that are you are with us forever. Whatever is happening in our lives right now we thank you that you are in our midst. May we not be afraid. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
