2 Samuel 17:1-29; John 19:23-42; Psalm 119:129-152; Proverbs 16:12-13
“The unfolding of your words gives light; it imparts understanding to the simple.” Psalm 119:130
The simple–you and me.
The God of the Universe who understands all
came down to us
as a baby.
The God of the Universe grew to be a man
who loved, healed and taught the Truth,
who died and rose
And now sits enthroned in Heaven.
This same God doesn’t demand intellectual gymnastics with perfect scores of 10 to win the gold. He has already won the gold for us.
He simply rolls out the carpet of truth all aglitter with light to show us the way to Him.
We see who we are: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23
We see what He did for us: “While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:8
We see the results: “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.” John 11: 25-26
Jesus asks, “Do you believe this?” John 11:26
It’s not rocket science.
Lord God, we thank and praise you that you have not made the way to You to be complicated and impossible. We thank you for sending the Holy Spirit to work through Word and Sacrament to impart faith in our hearts. Thank you for giving us the Light we need to follow your ways. May we come to you each day, to drink of your life giving word and to have our hearts and minds enlightened by your changeless truths. You are the “same yesterday, today and forever.” Thank you for your great love that sent your only Son to be the sacrifice for our sins–that we might live with you forever. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen
