1 Kings 5:1-6:38; Acts 7:1-29; Psalm 127:1-5; Proverbs 16:28-30
Solomon’s temple built of wood and stone covered in gold.
Seven years–lots of muscle, lots of sweat
Many details and yet–
“Unless the Lord builds the house its builders labor in vain.” Psalm 127:1
“Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen guard in vain.” Ps. 127:1
Unless the Master Builder lays the foundation of faith in our lives what have we achieved? What have we built?
Sometimes it’s helpful to ask-who is doing the building in my life? Is it the Lord, who uses perfectly matched stones of love, faithfulness, mercy, grace, patience, truth, righteousness, sacrifice, humility and peace?
Or am I wearing the hardhat? Following the blueprint of my own desires or those of the world–transient blocks of fame, power, wealth, popularity, status, influence, happiness, independence, or security?
What kind of home is being built for my family and by whom?
Lord God, may we partner with you, to learn your building skills, and to trust that you have the best blueprint around! Thank you, that homes you build come with everlasting life-time guarantees.
Forgive us when we try to do our own version of Home Improvement and end up making a mess. Please restore us amid the rubble of disappointment, anger, frustration, betrayal and doubt. Clear out the debris of sin in our lives and help us to get our heart-home in order. For Jesus’ sake we pray, Amen
