True or False
Keeping the 10 Commandments gives us a true heart for God.
False. (It would be true if we could, but we can’t on our own. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 3:23)
Doing good things for our neighbors makes our hearts true for God.
False. (Without faith in Jesus, our “good works” don’t look good to God. “There is none who does good, not even one.” Psalm 14:3)
Recognizing that we indeed sin–meaning fall short of God’s demand for perfection–makes our hearts true for God.
True. (“If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:8-9)
Believing in Jesus as God’s Son who died on the cross as payment for our sins makes our hearts true for God.
True. (“because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” Romans 10:9-10)
True hearts unite–we are all one in the Body of Christ-our True Heart living in us by faith.
Lord God, like Solomon, we too pray that you will turn our hearts to you–to walk in your ways. Forgive us when we fail to do what you want us to do–to love unconditionally, forgive unreservedly, believe unwaveringly, serve wholeheartedly. Thank you for hearing our prayers, for cleansing our hearts and setting them aright through Jesus Christ our Lord. He is our true Heart–there is no falsehood in him! It is in Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him with never perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
