God gifts children with parents who tend to their physical, emotional, social, intellectual and spiritual needs until they become independent and able to care for themselves.
God gifts parents with teachers, pastors, doctors, dentists, coaches, youth leaders, child development specialists, Scout leaders, YMCA counselors, and many others to help them in their task.
God gifts his Church with “apostles, prophets, evangelists, shepherds, and teachers to equip the saints for the work of the ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” Ephesians 4:11-13
God gifts us with these special people “so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro by the waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by human cunning, by craftiness in deceitful schemes.” Ephesians 4:14
God gifts us so that “speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way unto him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” Ephesians 4:15-16
Thank God for all His good gifts and for His commitment to see us “all grown up.”
Lord God, we thank you for the faithful pastors and teachers, parents and friends you have placed in our lives to help us grow towards maturity in Christ Jesus. Thank you for preserving Your Word which daily feeds us with Your truth and helps us to discern false teaching. Guard our hearts and minds in Christ that we may continue to grow in knowledge and, above all, in love towards You and towards one another. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen
