Isaiah 48:12-50:11;  Ephesians 4:17-32;  Psalm 69:1-18;  Proverbs 24:5-6

Power suits,

power ties,

   power shoes

–and socks.

Shake like this.

Smile like that.

       Speak with confidence.

Coached to perfection

    Head to toe control.

       Groomed to win at work,

    at life.

But, is there something more?

“put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and put on the new self created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.”  Ephesians 4:22-24

Off with bitterness,

   off with wrath,

      and anger.

Off with malice,

    off with clamor,

        off with evil slander.

Baptismal water and the Word

   strip us bare of sin.

We arise, clothed in white,

    dressed in Christ’s success.

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.”  Ephesians 4:32

Lord God Heavenly Father, thank you for dressing us in the white robes of Christ’s righteousness in our Baptism;  for the forgiveness of sins; for the Spirit’s power to live “successfully” in your Kingdom.

Forgive us when we stray from your path; when we succumb to the world’s way of climbing its “ladder of success.”  May we be found faithful in living, working and loving the way you desire, to your glory–not ours.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
