Jeremiah 8:8-9:26; Colossians 3:1-17; Psalm 78:32-55; Proverbs 24:27
Ever since the Fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, we’ve been dressed in less than appealing ‘fall’ fashions–at least in God’s eyes.
His once perfect creation became draped with sin because of man’s rebellion. Our spiritual clothes wreaked. They were stained. They were downright ratty.
But God sent a wardrobe changer–His Son Jesus Christ whose blood was shed on the Cross for our pitiful attire.
Now as redeemed and baptized Children of God–we have some choices to make regarding our daily ensembles.
Will we peel off the tattered remnants of “sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry?” Will we shed cloaks of “anger, malice, slander and filthy language?” Will we strip off lying and deceit?
Will we choose to remember our “new self” given to us through Water and the Word when we received a fresh set of clothes– one that is “renewed in knowledge in the image of our Creator?”
Wow! What choices we have as “God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved!”
We can put on “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”
We can wear forgiveness, acceptance, love and peace–
Clothes that are fitting for those who believe, who have Christ dwelling within by faith!
When we’re dressed up like Him, He’ll turn heads–and hearts!
Lord God, we thank and praise you that we DO have spiritual wardrobe choices. Your redeeming work on the Cross through Christ presents us as ‘all dressed up’, spotless, perfect. By your Spirit’s power, enable us to live each day clothed with your virtues. Forgive us when we drag out our ‘old clothes’ and sin against you. We know that we will continue to dirty our knees and pit out our shirts this side of Heaven. Thank you for cleaning us up and making us look good in your sight. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
“And over all these virtues, put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” Colossians 3:15
