Ezekiel 18:1-19:14; Hebrews 9:1-10; Psalm 106:32-48; Proverbs 27:10
“Nevertheless, he looked upon their distress,
when he heard their cry.
For their sake he remembered his covenant
and relented according to the abundance
of his steadfast love.”
I am so thankful that we serve a “nevertheless” God. –One who sees us “warts and all” and still loves us.
—One who doesn’t turn his back on us when life gets rough and we carry on as if He didn’t exist.
—One who realizes that we will continue to sin until the day we die.
—One who gave his only Son
Because of Jesus we live a nevertheless life–
We are forgiven, we are loved, we have meaning and purpose.
Pope Francis showed this incredible “nevertheless” love this week when he embraced and kissed a man greatly deformed in the face and body–one whose imperfections make people wince and turn their heads away. Pope Francis nevertheless recognized the worth of this man in God’s eyes and showered him with love.
God grant that we do the same–in His Son’s name!
Lord God, we thank and praise you for your steadfast love and mercy–that in light of our imperfection NEVERTHELESS you called us to be your sons and daughters. Thank you for the many nevertheless promises that you continue to keep: you will never leave us nor forsake us, though we may stray from you; you are faithful and just to forgive us our sins, though we are slow to acknowledge them; you come to us and give us rest, though we often strive so hard to do things our way. Thank you–for your merciful NEVERTHELESS in our lives. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
