“Four things on earth are small, yet they are extremely wise: Ants are creatures of little strength, yet they store up their food in the summer; coneys are creatures of little power, yet they make their home in the crags; locusts have no king, yet they advance together in ranks; a lizard can be caught with the hand, yet it is found in kings’ palaces.” Proverbs 30:24-28
And, God in his wisdom sent his son to earth as a baby, born to a young woman who was not yet married, in a lowly stable among animals, far from her own family. Seeming small and insignificant, the power and glory of God wrapped up swaddling clothes ushered in God’s plan of salvation. “Oh come let us adore him, Oh come let us adore him, Oh come let us adore him, Christ the Lord.”
Heavenly Father, the wonders of your love and your creative power never cease to amaze us. Thank you for giving us eyes of faith to believe the miracle that we celebrate this Christmas Eve. Immanuel–God with us–now and forever. In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
