Genesis 37:1-38:30;  Matthew 12:22-45;  Psalm 16:1-11;  Proverbs 3:27-32

“The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup;  you hold my lot.  The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places;  indeed I have a beautiful inheritance…Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.  You made known to me the path of life;  in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”  Psalm 16:5-6,9,11

What would your “winning ticket” grant you?

$50,000.00 a week for the rest of your life?

A disease free, disaster free life?

A never ending trip around the world?

King David celebrates his “winning ticket”–knowing the One True God who had provided him with a “beautiful inheritance.”  Nothing could compare to being in the presence of God where there was “fullness of joy” and “pleasures forevermore.”

The lottery

The sweepstakes

The winning horse or hand

Offer a “chance” at happiness.

Jesus offers forever peace, true riches, unending pleasures of grace, mercy, forgiveness and love.

Lord God, thank you for gifting us with the “winning ticket” of Salvation.  Thank you for sending Jesus, your Son, who intentionally–and not by chance–won us freedom from sin, death, and the power of Satan.  As your children, we acknowledge you to be the source of all that we need in this life and the life to come.  May we always remember that through our Baptism, we’ve received the “winning ticket”.  Thank you for this “beautiful inheritance.”  In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.

  1. Laura, I enjoyed your reference to a “winning ticket.” How generous that He not only gives us the biggest prize ever; but He has chosen us and paid for the ticket in full. It is sad how many people are addicted to buying lottery tickets to the point of stopping off at every convenience store, on their way home from work, to buy the “winning ticket.” Thankfully, God longs for them to reach out to Him for deliverance from such bondage. He satisfies.

    Blessings ~ Wendy
