Genesis 4:1-5:21;  Matthew 18:1-22; Psalm 22:19-31;  Proverbs 5:15-21

“At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?  He called a little child and had him stand among them.  And he said:  “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.  Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”  Matthew 18:1-4

Lord God, help me to swap out my do-it-myself Christianity—my “I’ll pray harder, serve longer, believe more fervently mentality”–for simple faith–believing that Jesus Christ has done it all for me already.  He’s paid for my sins, lived a perfect life, and comes to me in  Word and Sacrament to strengthen and preserve me as your dearly loved child.  Thank you for calling me to be one of your own!  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.
