March 6 Security Freak

Numbers 6:1-7:89;  Mark 12:38-13:13;  Psalm 49:1-20;  Proverbs 10:27-28

“Be not afraid when a man becomes rich, when the glory of his house increases.  For when he dies he will carry nothing away;  his glory will not go down after him.  For though, while he lives, he counts himself blessed–and though you get praises when you do well for yourself–his soul will go to the generations of his fathers, who will never again see light.  Man in his pomp yet without understanding is like the beasts that perish.”  Psalm 49:16-20

How much is enough?

What does it take

to ease the fear of want?

“He’s got more,

I’ve got less.

She has it all,

I’m still wanting.”

Is there no end to ‘wantingness’.

When eyes close for the last time,

when breath’s no longer taken

what matters is the heart.

Was it full of faith in the limitless, endless

grace of Christ

or was it full of stuff?

A security freak?

A Jesus freak?

Our world shines the light on security freaks

but shuns those truly secure.

For when the light goes out

only those in Christ

Lord God, you have truly made us secure.  In Your Son, Jesus, we have everything, including life eternal!  Money cannot buy Your peace that surpasses all human understanding.  We will never be in the world’s spotlight, but through faith we will be eternally in yours.  What great security that is!  We give you our thanks and praise.  May we be ever willing to share the reason for our joy–in Jesus’ name, Amen.
