July 4 Ultimate Independence

2 Kings 23:31-25:30;  Acts 22:17-23:10;  Psalm 2:1-12;  Proverbs 18:13

“Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain?  The kings of the earth set themselves and the rulers take counsel together against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.”

He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision.  Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury saying, “As for me, I have ‘set my King on Zion, my holy hill'”

Now therefore O kings be wise;  be warned O rulers of the earth.  Serve the Lord with trembling.  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry with you and you perish in the way for his wrath is quickly kindled.  Blessed are all who take refuge in him.”  Psalm 2:1-6, 10-12

       Ultimate King

    Ultimate Rule

         Ultimate Freedom

              Ultimate Independence

In Jesus Christ the Lord

who alone has defeated

        life’s ultimate enemies

once and for all on the Cross.

No longer does sin, death and Satan

    lay claim to those who

call on the name of the Lord.

Are you free?

    Are you celebrating ultimate independence

and anticipating a place in the Heavenly Kingdom?

If you are, rejoice in your forever freedom!

If not, come to Jesus, ruler of all

     with a repentant heart–

He will not turn you away who say,

“Forgive me, I am a sinner.”

Trust Him as the only Way, Truth and Life.

Seek the Lord’s washing in Baptism

        and the fellowship of believers.

Your Independence Day will dawn

     bright as the noonday sun!

Lord God, as we celebrate Independence Day here in America, may we be reminded of the Ultimate Independence you won for us on the Cross.  We are free in Christ–we are free from sin’s tyranny, Satan’s power to destroy, and Death’s strong bonds.  We give you all thanks and praise that no matter where we live on this earth, whether in freedom or not, we are free in You.  We celebrate our ultimate independence this day, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
