Genesis 48:1-49:33;  Matthew 15:29-16:12;  Psalm 20:1-9;  Proverbs 4:20-27

“Then Jacob called for his sons and said, ‘Gather around so I can tell you what will happen to you in days to come…

Joseph is a fruitful vine, a fruitful vine near a spring, whose branches climb over the wall.  With bitterness archers attacked him; they shot at him with hostility.  But his bow remained steady, his strong arms stayed limber, because of the hand of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel, because of your father’s God, who helps you, because of the Almighty, who blesses you with the blessings of the heavens above,  blessings of the deep that lie below, blessings of the breast and womb.

Your father’s blessings are greater than the blessings of the ancient mountains, than the bounty of the age-old hills.  Let all these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of the prince among his brothers.”  Genesis 49:22-27

“And Jesus came and said to them (disciples), ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them all that I have commanded you.”  Matthew 28:18-20

Baptized one,

receive the blessings of my Name.

In the name of the Father you have my never ending love, protection and providence.

In the name of the Son, you have my redeeming forgiveness

and a right status before Me.

In the name of the Holy Spirit, you have my life-giving,

life-sustaining power and presence.

Because of my Name put upon you through

the Water and the Word

you have my promise

“I am with you always, to the end of the age.”(Matthew 28:20)

Lord God, out of your rich mercy and compassion you have called us by name and bestowed upon us YOUR name.  Through faith we receive your boundless blessings, the greatest of which is the full forgiveness of our sins and a restored relationship to you.  Thank you Lord God!  Please forgive us for taking your blessings of New Life for granted. For Jesus’ sake, Amen.
