1 Samuel 10:1-11:15;  John 6:43-71;  Psalm 107:1-43;  Proverbs 15:1-3

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life.  I am the bread of life.  Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.  This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.

“I am the living bread come down from heaven.

If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever.

And the bread that I will give for the life of the whole world

is my flesh.”

The Jews then disputed among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

John 6:48-52

It IS hard to swallow

this truth that Jesus taught

that by faith alone

Heaven can be our lot.

IF we feed on Him–

listen to His Word

inwardly digest His truths

receive forgiveness of sins

through His body and blood

at His table

we WILL live forever.

God works this miracle of faith

in lives accustomed to different fares,

with tastes far different from the

Heavenly Manna.

He trains our taste buds to seek

pure ingredients

unadulterated by selfish greed

and desires

to desire Him and Him alone.

“He satisfies the thirsty

and fills the hungry with good things.”

Psalm 107:9

Lord God ,so often we try to satisfy our longings with food that does not last; with worldly foods like success, power, fame, expensive things, places and experiences that give us false sensations of fullness, but which do not last.  Thank you, for giving us food that feeds our spirits, that keeps us alive spiritually–Your Son Jesus Christ.  Continue to give us faith to believe in You.  Strengthen us through Word and Sacrament and fellowship with our brothers and sisters in Christ.  We give you thanks for our Daily Bread.  In His name we pray, Amen.
