New Beginnings

“Clap your hands, all peoples!  Shout to God with loud songs of joy!

For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth.

He subdued peoples under us, and nations under our feet.

He chose our heritage for us, the pride of Jacob whom he loves.

God has gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.

Sing praises to God, sing praises!  Sing praises to our King,

sing praises!

For God is the King of all the earth; sing praises with a psalm!

God reigns over the nations; God sits on his holy throne.

The princes of the peoples gather as the people of the God of Abraham.  For the shields of  the earth belong to God;

he is highly exalted!

Psalm 47

Lord God, today is a new beginning for me.  A day that I start a journey of studies and preparation for work as a deaconess.  It is a day of new beginnings for others as well.  May the strong words of this psalm give courage and peace for all of us who are depending on You to see us through.  We give you thanks for the heritage of life in your Son, Jesus Christ.  May we give you honor and glory and praise this day!  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. When I was a camp counselor during my college summers, at Camp Merri Mac for Girls up in Black Mt. NC, we use to sing “Clap your hands”—I absoluelty loved it—to this day, I can be found humming or singing it to myself as I clean or work in the yard–HOSANNA, HOSANNA, SHOUT UNTO GOD WITH A VOICE OF TRIUMPH—well maybe I’m more like shouting my triumph and praise verse always humming 🙂

    • You’ve got me humming that tune now! And now that the day is done, I’m giving thanks to God for His goodness. I think I will really enjoy this educational and more importantly, spiritual adventure!
