“Incline your ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply your heart to my knowledge…that your trust may be in the Lord; I have made them known to you today, even to you.”  Proverbs 22:17-19

* * * * *

Words. Words.

Either they give life

or they lead to death.

The power of THE WORD to make new;

to cut through the thick callouses of one’s heart

to remove the lifeless from the beating part.

The power of THE WORD

to pump new life into wastelands;

to cause rivers to flow

and flowers to blossom,

to quench the thirst

and satisfy.

The power of THE WORD,

the power of Christ our Lord

to forgive sins,

remove guilt,

impart the Holy Spirit

through Word and Sacrament

gives me hope to see beyond

to a day when loved ones share in

the joy of His Salvation

and with united voice

praise our God and King!

* * * * *

Jesus, you are THE WORD

the great I AM

that made soldiers fall on their faces

at your arrest

at your resurrection

and will cause all men

to fall on their faces before You

when You return to judge

the living and the dead.

* * * * *

Do you believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior?

In Him whose blood set you free to become one of His?

He is calling your name

Calling you to turn away from your sin

to give you forgiveness

and new life.

Your life will be refreshed

and living water will flow through you.

You will never be the same again!

Come, Lord Jesus, Come!

Deuteronomy 34:1-Joshua 2:24;  Luke 13:22-14:6;  Psalm 79:1-13;  Proverbs 12:26

“Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent out two spies from Shittim.  ” Go, look over the land,” he said, “especially Jericho.”  So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.

The king of Jericho was told, “Look! Some of the Israelites have come here tonight to spy out the land.”  So the king of Jericho sent this message to Rahab: “Bring out the men who came to you and entered your house, because they have come to spy out the whole land.”

But the woman had taken the two men and hidden them….

“Before the spies lay down for the night, she went up on the roof and said to them, “I know that the Lord has given this land to you and that a great fear of you has fallen on us, so that all who live in this country are melting in fear because of you.   We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to Sihon and Og, the two kings of the Amorites…how you completely destroyed them.  When we heard of it, our hearts melted and everyone’s courage failed because of you, for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below.”

Joshua 2:1-12, select verses

A declaration of faith

from the mouth of a harlot

shows the power of God

to change a heart,

save a soul,

save many souls

from death.

One woman

who heard the same news as her

who should have feared for her life

because of who and what she was

confessed before God

and the spies

“Your God is God

in heaven above and

the earth below.”

God had revealed himself to her

through the mighty deeds

He had performed

and she believed!

* * * * *

God saves all who hear His Word

and believes

and confesses

that He is Lord

of Heaven and Earth.

The scarlet cord of Jesus’ blood

shed on the Cross

marks us as saved ones

for those who believe.

Death and destruction

will pass us by.

* * * * *

Rahab got a new life

walked by faith

and is recorded in Jesus’

family tree.

“By faith, Rahab the harlot did not perish along with those who were disobedient, after she welcomed the spies in peace.”  Hebrews 11:31

“…and to Salmon was born Boaz by Rahab; and to Boaz was born Obed by Ruth; and to Obed, Jesse; and to Jesse was born David the king.”  Matthew 1:5

Lord God, thank you for preserving the story of Rahab the prostitute, the story of her faith in You and how that faith brought her new life.  Your word is meant for all people–people just like Rahab.  Your word brings life!  Please help us to share the Good News with those who need to hear.  Thank you for taking away the scarlet sins of our lives and for making us new in Christ Jesus, our Lord whose Resurrection from the dead we continue to celebrate and rejoice!  Amen.

1 Samuel 17:1-18:4;  John 8:21-30;  Psalm 111:1-10;  Proverbs 15:11

“Praise the Lord!  I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart.

Great are the works of the Lord studied by all who delight in them.

Full of splendor and majesty is his work and his righteousness endures forever.

He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered.

The Lord is gracious and merciful.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom;

all those who practice it have a good understanding.

His praise endures forever!”

Psalm 111:1-4,10

The Creation–Magnificent!

But more magnificent than this is the creation of a new life, born of water and the spirit in whom faith now sees the face of the Creator–and believes!

The old has passed away–the new has come.

Sin no longer reigns!

A power much greater dwells in a believer’s heart and mind–

the mind of Christ.

What’s not to rejoice about!

His Divine work switches on the Light and casts out fear.

His Divine work strengthens weak knees and lifts bowed heads.

His Divine work of redeeming souls never ends!

We remember your works, O Lord, at Creation, on the Cross, in our hearts and we give you all glory and praise!  Thank you Lord Jesus!  Amen.
