On My Heart

Brad Castaneda

On my heart imprint Your image, blessed Jesus, King of grace,

That life’s riches, cares, and pleasures never may Your work erase;

Let the clear inscription be:  Jesus, crucified for me, is my life,

my hope’s foundation, and my glory and salvation!

Text by Thomas Hansen Kingo, 1634-1703

“Make me to know your ways, O Lord;  teach me your paths.  Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation;  for you I wait all the day long.”  Psalm 25:4-5

Anything Good?

“Many are asking, “Who can show us anything good?”

Let the light of your face shine upon us, O Lord.

You have filled my heart with greater joy

than when their grain

and new wine abound.

I will lie down and sleep in peace,

for you alone, O Lord,

make me dwell in safety.”

Psalm 4:6-8

Lord God, You are good.  When we look for something “good” in this world it dims in light of Your grace and mercy.  You have given us peace in our hearts by turning Your face towards us–we have seen You face to face through Your Son Jesus Christ our Lord who obediently became the sacrifice for our sins.  There are no greater riches than the freedom from sin and guilt found in Your forgiveness.  Help us to live this day in joyful response to all of Your good gifts to us. For Jesus’ sake, Amen.

2 Chronicles 14:1-16:4; Romans 9:1-21; Psalm 19:1-14; Proverbs 20:1

“The law of the Lord is perfect
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is pure
making wise the simple;
the precepts of the Lord are right
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure
enlightening the eyes;
the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.
More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and dripping of the honeycomb.
Moreover, by them is your
servant warned;
in keeping them there is
great reward.”
Psalm 19:7-11

Out in the open
for all to see
not under lock and key
like riches
that can be bought
by those who can
afford them,
Your Word freely given,
freely shared
with the world
has the power to do
what gold and silver
fail–
to lift my soul
from the deepest pit,
make light
the heavy burden
of sin and guilt.

Jesus,
The Word
made flesh
fulfilled the law’s
demands,
then did what I could not
do–
save myself,
make myself clean,
make myself pure,
make myself righteous,
become wise.

He is altogether
pure,
wise,
righteous
and clean.

Faith in Him
in His forgiveness,
in His redeeming love
is all the treasure I need.
He is my life and great reward.
Thank you, Jesus!

Deuteronomy 4:1-49;  Luke 6:39-7:10;  Psalm 68:1-18;  Proverbs 11:28

“Whoever trusts in his riches will fall,

but the righteous will flourish

like a green leaf.”

Proverbs 11:28

“But I am like a green olive tree

in the house of the God

forever and ever.”

Psalm 52:8

“The righteous flourish like a palm tree

and grow like a cedar in Lebanon.

They are planted in the house of the Lord,

they flourish in the courts

of our God.

They bear fruit in old age;

they are ever full of sap and green.”

Psalm 92:12-14

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,

whose trust is the Lord.

He is like a tree planted by water,

that sends out its roots by the stream,

and does not fear when heat comes,

for its leaves remain green

and is not anxious in the year of drought,

for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Jeremiah 17:7

Heavenly Father, thank you for making us ever green.  That the life blood of your son courses through our veins by faith.  That when difficult times come our way we remain rooted and grounded in You.  May we bear fruit and witness to your everlasting love in our words and actions this day.  For Jesus’ sake we pray, Amen.
